The happiest people are those who are the most self-regulated. When people learn how to change internal states, entire perspectives, attitudes and behaviors shift. In this seminar, psychotherapists Carol Kershaw will expand upon the work in their new book, Brain Change Therapy: Clinical Interventions for Self Transformation (WW Norton in 2011), and demonstrate new brain-based methods for:
  • Changing a reactive and fearful brain
  • Identifying triggers to negative patterns
  • Building positive brain habits that result in creativity and optimal productive states
A growing number of neuroscience studies indicate that people can alter neural circuitry and even change personality traits. Far beyond the repair of dysfunction, it is also possible to develop the exceptional mind wherein deep states of concentration
lead to profound experiences of stillness, calm and equanimity. This seminar will teach practical new skills from neuroscience research to reach optimal mind states. The use of deep states as one practice can promote creative insight and even resolution of trauma. Through PowerPoint, entertaining humor, and demonstrations, participants will learn new information, new skills and new personal resources.

  1. List the 7 emotional brain circuits clients can use to make lasting change.
  2. Utilize unknown psychological and somatic learnings and conditionings from life experience.
  3. Condition positive states with positive habits of mind.
  4. Implement new, powerful, and effective strategies and interventions.
  5. Accelerate therapy with the neuroscience-based information for overcoming difficult problems.
  6. Experience the path toward developing the optimal mind.
